About Me

Hi, I’m Thatcher Poindexter, a Gameplay Designer and aspiring Gameplay Engineer graduating from Full Sail University in November 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Interactive Technology, concentrating in Game Design.

My primary focus is developing gameplay systems in Unreal Engine using Blueprints. I enjoy building mechanics from the ground up and creating modular, reusable systems for player movement, traversal, interaction, progression, and other core gameplay features. Through structured iteration and problem-solving, I focus on creating systems that feel responsive and intuitive for the player while remaining organized, scalable, and maintainable.

I’m also especially interested in level design and how player movement, gameplay mechanics, and environmental layout work together to shape the player experience. I enjoy thinking about how a level can support and reinforce its core mechanics, guide player behavior, and create meaningful gameplay moments.

 

Alongside my Unreal Engine experience, I have a background in developing gameplay systems in Roblox Studio using Lua. Building games and systems in Roblox helped establish my foundation in scripting, gameplay logic, and scalable system design, and continues to inform how I approach technical problem-solving in Unreal Engine.

Beyond development, I have mentored students in programming and delivered a technical presentation for Memphis Hack Club focused on gameplay scripting and system structure. My background in robotics competition and academic achievement has also helped develop the disciplined, systems-oriented approach I bring to game development.

I’m passionate about the intersection of game design and engineering, particularly the process of building gameplay systems and levels that work together to create responsive, engaging, and memorable player experiences. As I continue developing my technical expertise in Unreal Engine, my goal is to contribute to the creation of polished gameplay experiences that are both thoughtfully designed and technically well-implemented.
